The Swedish School in Nicaragua is a pedagogical blessing for children with Scandinavian parents, residing in Nicaragua. In principle, the school is just like a school in Sweden, with the same topics and pedagogical methods, but with the difference that children from 0-6th Grade also receive classes in Spanish. The school welcomes children with at least one Swedish parent, and other children who can keep up with classes conducted in Swedish, no matter their nationality. Classes are conducted in Swedish, but to the extent that it is possible, the school also offers classes in other Scandinavian languages. The fact that classes are conducted in Swedish only rarely represents a problem to children from other Scandinavian countries.

A well-established pedagogical focus, stimulating teaching materials and qualified teachers makes up the basis for the day-to-day teaching. Teaching at the Swedish School aims at taking into consideration the individual student’s development potential and at the same time create the foundation for continued studies. Therefore one of our objectives is to ease the reintegration into the country of origin, once the stay in Nicaragua has come to an end. Students who have attended the Swedish School are well prepared for teaching in other schools, for instance 7-9th grade or high school. Not least is it important that the knowledge of the mother tongue is firmly founded, in order to avoid that the children become ‘half-lingual’. If possible, we want them to be bilingual. Therefore, Spanish classes are compulsory.
